"On the Trail"

The Journals from the Road

November 22:  Riding Diagonally though Sando Agusty - Laguna De Chapala, BC Mex

Today we woke up to the winds and they kept it up all day.

I found a new dish that I really enjoy Huevos Mexicanas.  These are scrambled eggs with onion and green peppers, with supporting cast of beans, and tortillas.  These now double my breakfast favorites list, adding to lonely Huevos Rancheros, which after having them again and again taste a bit like Huevos Rancid-eros.

After breakfast Justin and I climbed atop our steeds and almost as quickly got nearly blown off the road. The wind had changed directions and was blowing at about 30-45 mph across the road.  This added bonus feature made riding in the desert more of a training ground for a cycling circus.  We actually had to ride and lean into the wind about ten degrees and then just keep pedaling like heck.  It is a lot like windsurfing although I suspect the fall surface bites back a bit more in our situation.  This was all a bit psychologically taxing not to mention the oncoming semi truck gusts just to keep you on your toes!

This last part of desert was basically four elements:  gravel, sage brush, sun, and wind, and that was it.  It was even too tough for the previously mentioned cacti of beauty.

About six hours of this with two pit stops for midmorning snack and lunch and I was very ready to park it at the Dry Lake of Chapala.

But just in case you are wondering I am still pinching myself with wonder at living this dream and still having fun.
This is just very intense fun!!
