The Journals from the Road
November 24: Hit 2K TODAY! - Parallelo 28, Mexico
Hey everybody!
I am writing to you from under the shade of a gazeebo in the middle of a
deserted RV park. "Why?" you ask.
Well, for those of you who did ask, I was looking for a shady place to eat my
lunch and maybe buy something to drink. I saw this RV park and the office
was closed but the bathrooms were open. And you know what that means.
We were in business. Just after lunch I noticed a plug-in on a post of the
gazeebo and I thought that now would be a perfect time to recharge my camera's
batteries while I caught up on the ol' journal. So that brings us to right
about now.
But to back track a bit... I had my 2000th mile today. I whooped and hollered
again but only God and the sagebrush heard me, I think. I wanted to take a
picture and found a lump of sand to set my camera on to capture the moment.
Thinking back over this last 1000 miles I have had many deep thoughts. I
would drop a few of them on you in this momentous moment but I think I have
forgotten most of them.
Actually, I have continued to be delighted in how humanity is so generous and
willing to help, ready to be needed. I have discovered this again and
again in Mexico from the free places to camp behind a family's restaurant to the
concern and advice of a waitress at my buddy's illness.
I have been riding for the last few days with an Australian named Justin and we
have been keeping each other company along these desert roads.

PS. I saw a roadrunner today. It actually sped across the road in
front of me. It looked just like the cartoon version except that it didn't
say, "Beep, beep!" Sorry no photo. Like Mr. Coyote it
quickly outwitted my pursuit and disappeared. Quite fun, none the less.
