November 28: Camp Cactus! - A few miles North of Santa Rosalia, Baja Sur, Mex

I got an early start today and was at the town of  San Ignacio by 11:00.  I met a family traveling for a week from San Diego and they shared their lunch with me.  Thank-you Joan, Jim, Amy, Brandy, and Candra for lunch and also the great singing.  It was a real treat to have, get this, fresh salad and tofu bacon bagel sandwiches.  What a surprise for a herbivore like me!

I visited the beautiful church of San Ignacio which was completed in 1786.  It is still being used as this is Sunday and I think the whole town is here.  I just witnessed a few first baptisms.  After the priest wiped each baby's head the families all go outside of the church.  This is why all of the kids are around I realized because the godparents of each child throw money out to the crowd.  This was fun to see.

I finally headed off to Santa Rosalia but didn't make it too far.  Within about 2 hours I realized that my back tire was losing air pretty fast.  I only had about an hour of daylight and I knew it was more than 20 miles to the next town.

I weighed my options and decided to head off the road and make camp in the desert.  This is my first time wild camping in Mexico and at first I was a bit nervous.  I soon found a spot that was far enough away from the highway to  be out of sight but close enough to get help if I needed it.

I cooked up another dinner of creamy pasta, fixed my tire, and wrote a bit.

The stars are amazing.  All is quiet. All is well.
