"On the Trail"

The Journals from the Road

November 29: An Adventurers Convention in Mulege - Baja Sur, Mex.

Another fine morning.  Today's was especially serene because I got a chance to take in the landscape pre-sun.  Then I got to watch the sun rise over the hills and add all okf its golden color to the landscape.

I was hoping to make it to the town of Santa Rosalia for lunch and I did.  This town has a French influence because French settlers built and ran a copper mine in this town.  The church that I had lunch at was actually designed by Alexandre Gustave Eiffel of the Eiffel Tour.  I had another fiesta tire to fix today and so after many peanut butter sandwiches I repaired the flat while a gathering crowd of school children looked on.  I told them of my travels and they told me they would write to me.

After that it was over a few hills to Mulege.  I was actually looking for Joan and her family but never found them.  However, I did meet up with three funtastic people from England and all over.

They were camping at this RV park and were the only other tent campers.  Michael, of middle age but with more vigor than a spry five year old, told me of his world travels.  One of these was a journey from Egypt to South Africa on $54.  He hitch-hiked and camped all the way.

Then there was Steven and Morico, a couple from England who are planning a bike trip from England to Japan which they will begin this April or May.  I hear that Steven is an undercover investment banker by night and kayaker by day, or something like that.  Morico is from Japan and is an amazing artist.  She keeps an ongoing illustrated journal of her travels complete with watercolor and colored pencil masterpieces.

These three were so jovial and kind.  They treated me to a gourmet camp dinner and many good stories.  Bon voyage wherever you go my friends!
