"On the Trail"

The Journals from the Road

December 2:  The international cycling team - Ciudad Constitucion, Baja Sur, Mex

All morning I pedaled uphill.  And I was very tired.  But it was good.

Then at then top of all these hills
who should appear
but A Santa 'Richard' Clause
and three not so tiny Austrian cyclists, each with pannier (if spoken quickly this line should rhyme with 'appear' in the above line)
They raced down the hill with a bump and a clatter.
And I decided to follow and strike up some chatter.

How could I not throw in a PeaceBike Rhyme for the holidays?

It turns out Richard from England and Washington State is Biking to Cabo and met up with these three Austrians who are doing a round trip to San Diego by bike, ferry, and train via the mainland.

It was a big thrill to ride with the four of them, in a line, drafting behind the leader against the wind.  We were a force to be reckoned with as we barreled down the road.  I left them for a campsite with showers and a pool and they went on to find a hotel.

Later, I visited a Chinese Restaurant and got a two hour Spanish lesson from eight year Victor, a Chinese-Mexican boy.  He had a picture dictionary and we would got through it together and point to our favorite animals, insects, vehicles, etc.

I would recommend Manfred's Austrian RV park as a good, clean place to camp and have a hot shower in Ciudad Constitution.
