"On the Trail"

The Journals from the Road

February 27:  To church, to highway, to camp. Slightly south of Teohuacan, Puebla

I slept quite well on the cot I was lent for the night. The next morning the president and I fixed my flat tire together. I then went to mass at the local church. I did't catch much of the sermon, something about not smoking marijuana and a few familiar Bible verses. It seemed everyone was there from infants up. There is enough movement, from standing, to sitting, to kneeling, to standing again, to keep everyone busy with no need for childcare.

After church I said good-bye to the president and headed out of town. On my way out I stopped to take a picture of a farmer and his wagon. Then back on the highway. Going was pretty smooth. I stopped for an email send off break , using the TM-20 and a pay phone. I headed out, rode for a while, and around 5:00 stopped to find a good campsite. I was ready for a bit of solitude and not another "meet the tourist" night. I found a dugout that was surrounded by brush. I cooked up some onion and pasta soup and set my tent up just before dark.

It was nice to be in the tent for a change.
