The Journals from the Road
March 23: One hill of a hill!- a little farm, Chiapas I headed out in the afternoon and made it up a good bit of hill for about 3 hours before dark was getting the better of me. I stopped at a farm and put up the tent next to the farm house. The farmers here work for about 30 pesos a day and were astounded to hear that laborers usually make more than that in an hour in the states. The road between the US and Mexico is often a one-way street. We had a good conversation with many laughs and I hit the sack early after a mini dinner of jelly, peanut butter, and dried tortillas called Tabobos. Early in the morning the next day two of the farmers took me down to a little creek. It was a bit like the one running through my Grandadīs woods (many good hours were spent in that creek). This one had cut a ravine in the rocks and had left a maze of stone arches, caves, and rocky crevasses. Lowly shame, I forgot my disk for my camera! Well, I headed off at about 9:30 am for a long uphill to San Cristobal! TAD |
