April 12-13:   School visit, pen pals, and website NEWS! - San Cristobal, Chiapas

Hello there,

I had a great time at little Gladys' school. At first I wasn't so sure because the teachers were all in a meeting and the kids were enjoying Wild-time and this was during school hours. However, when the meeting was over I got a chance to meet Gladys' teacher, Hector Francisco Santiago, and fellow students. They enjoyed my stories and I was enjoying their questions and then their teacher, Hector Francisco Santiago, suggested something I wasn't quite sure about. He wanted his students to each write a letter to a student in Oregon. I wasn't sure at first as to how this would work but I quickly thought of a few classrooms that could translate these letters and a few others who would just love writing back.

Then Hector suggested that I visit his wife's class of first graders. I did and was so enthused by their eager attentiveness. They all wanted my address so PeaceBike may be receiving lots of little letters soon. What fun! When I came back to the fourth grade I picked up a big envelope stuffed full of letters with handmade envelopes and drawings of houses, and forests, and food, and toys, in order to give kids in the US a better idea of what life is like in San Cristobal for 10 and 11 year olds. After the letters we took some pictures and then I headed back and put them up on the website.

Speaking of the website, there are a few more things to check out:
