The Journals from the Road
April 14: A push uphill and a night in green pastures - Green Pastures Campground, Chiapas Within a few minutes it started sprinkling and then really raining so we each got a chance to use our rain gear. Jon had just bought a poncho and a plastic sheet and looked like the Wicked Witch of the the West riding a giant ziplock bag. It was quite a sight! At one point I met two little boys who had enough energy to give me a push uphill for some 30 meters. They seemed to think it was loads of fun so I didn't talk them out of it. Jon came by and gave them a high five and one of them fell down from laughing so hard. I guess we are quite the entertainment team on wheels. As it was nearing dusk we asked around to see if we could camp near someone's house. We didn't get much of a positive response so we headed on. We finally picked out a spot off the road and over some mounds (out of sight from the road). I put up my tent and Jon strung his hammock up. He has a stove now, fashioned from a tin can and propelled with alcohol. Its first contribution to our cause was some piping hot tea! Old Whisper Lite gets the credit for a batch of spicy peanut butter pasta with a few vegis. The moon bright, and mosquitos few, set the scene for a delightful evening of spun tales and laughter.
