April 19:   A break at Misol-Ha and a Red Sun at dusk! Palenque, Chiapas

We left late after a good chat with Francois Felix, a traveler who has biked some 18,000 kms on a bike and now is traveling by van. We dreamed about Indian food together and that was fun. When we finally got packed up, purified water, and got out from under the spell of Agua Azul it was almost 11:00 am.

Too late, but what can you do?

We climbed up and down through the jungle and finally, when I was just about to burst from the heat, we got to the waterfall Misol-Ha. We took turns dunking ourselves under the waterfall. Jon watched the bikes while I stood under the falls and thanked G.O.D. (Groovy Omnipresent Divinity) for such wonderfall playgrounds. I was refreshed and so was Jon and we hopped on and pedaled it out another 2 and some hours to Palenque.

There were many signs of the Zona Touristica once again. High Prices, many hotels, and lots of vendors.

But the sunset was amazing. With a haze in the air the sun became a glowing orange ball leading us through the misty jungle!

We found a place to put up our tents with showers at Maya Bell. We were chewing on the last of our Ocosingo vegis when we were offered a big pan of potatoes and eggs. Those eggs were easily incorporated into our vegi-rice medley and gobbled with delight and thanksgiving.

I met a very kind family from Puebla late that night. Hello to Pepe, Laura, Jose, Pancho, and Roberto and thanks for the Coke while I waited for my water!

We have been too thirsty recently and so I made up a bunch more water with the iodine and filter!

Tomorrow we explore the RUINS OF PALENQUE!!!
