The Journals from the Road
May 7: Flexibility and a great museum! Chetumal, Quintana Roo I found breakfast in the form of carrot juice and fruit salad and that was very good. I came back and did some laundry and then to the cybercafe nearby. I planned to leave this afternoon after a little cyber-session. Well the cyber-cafe that was just open was now about to close for a siesta. A long one at that. So I decided that, with feeling under-par, no cyber, and having to get to the bank, I might as well stay an extra day in Chetumal. When I decided this I was transformed. With lots of extra time, I went to the museum in th center of town. Wow, I was very impressed. Unlike all the other museums I have been to this one was quite interactive and hands-on! You could spin the Mayan calendar wheel, practice you own Mayan numerals with a computer connected abacus, and even take a visit to the underworld. Donīt worry, getting out was just up a flight of stairs. This museum is a must even if you donīt come on Sunday. It also is very air-conditioned complete with jungle sounds minus the jungle heat, which is a plus (new math strikes back). After a great talk with one of the workers at the museum named Esbel I realized it had poured while I was inside. Sopping wet clothes were another reason to stay an extra day! I found a cheaper hotel and then by the time I had gotten settled and checked out another email place the first one was open and ready to use. Well, this should be the last full day in Mexico for a while. On to Belize, tomorrow! TAD |
