Friday, November 3, 2000: Catching up in Machala. --- Machala, Ecuador

We talked to Carlos last night and he invited us to stay with him so we met him at Oro Net this morning and I got him signed up with a hotmail account so that we could stay in contact. We moved our stuff from the hotel to Carlos' house.

Today we did a lot of email checking, FTPing and eating. Met a few cool travelers recently too, Dominique from Spain who has traveled every continent in the world and has been in the Americas for 2 years, and an Australian couple, Anne and Graham, who just came from Peru. Also met two Peace Corp volunteers in a cybercafe, Kimberly and Erin, been here in Machala for a few months.

People around here speak very quickly and they drop there S es. For the first day Frank and I were both wondering if we knew Spanish.

I would recommend two cibercafes here.... Connexion a block off the central park and Telephonet (Telephonet@latinmail.com) on 9 de Octobre between Tangui and Colon.

Ended up taking a Taxi back to the movie theater because we couldn't find Carlos' house. He was working so we caught the end of X-men again then we walked home and ate snacks and tea with Carlos and some neighbors of his, Santiago, Elizabeth, and Diego.

Under a mosquito net that didn´t seem to work,
