Dec. 17, 2000: Market buddies and the Grinch -- Cusco, Perú

Tad here..

Today, Frank left early to go to the airport to pick up his friend from Trujillo. She will be checking out the sites of Cusco with him for the next few days.

I went to the market and did some food shopping, which was so fun. I ended up buying more than I could eat for a number of days. I met three great people in the market, Gregorio, Eva, and Juana. They got me hooked up with a hot market meal of cooked vegi salad, potatoes, and a spicey curry and also gave me tips on how to get to Machu Picchu without taking the expensive train down.

That afternoon I went on a great bike ride up to Saksaiwahman (which I couldn´t remember very well until Anna, working at the hotel, said, ¨Just think sexy-woman¨. ). Later in the day I started to asked someone, accidentally, how I get to Sexy Woman!!! This is the problem with those memory cues.

For an evening treat I invited Frank, Jack, and Justina to the nearby video cinema for a viewing of ¨The Grinch¨. It only cost one Sol!! Unfortunately, it was hardly worth the Sol as it was a bad copy of a copy and in Spanish. Therefore, was almost impossible for even the fully fluent Spanish speakers to understand. It was like I watched the silent version and had to put my own words to it. I will watch it again sometime...

Have been noticing more lights going up in around here. The pine trees in the Plaza de Armas are now decorated with lights and big Coca-Cola balls.

Will the Christmas of the future become Coca-cola-mas? (Deep thoughts...)
