"On the Trail"
Tuesday, August 7, 2001: We Meet Again! - Waterford to Glens Falls, New York, USA - 81 km
Frank here…
I awoke not too long after day break and decided to have breakfast in this quaint cafe in Waterford where I met a very interesting professor named John. He was gearing up for a presentation about how we see reality and exploring the possibilities of other viewpoints of life. We had a very uplifting and stimulating discussion with, yes, bacon and eggs. I only had bacon and eggs once before on this trip. It was in China with the Canadian expatriates, the Trimbles. John is also a musician and has designed a nine string guitar. The three low strings are doubled (like a 12 string guitar) and the other three strings are single to play lead guitar.
Like the other days, the morning started cool and comfortable but before noon the temperatures rose again. I looked forward to having a swim in Lake Saratoga, and it happened. I stopped near some docks and an older fellow named Dick let me go on his dock for a chance to jump in the refreshing water. Ahhh! I ended up sitting with his neighbour, Dave's raised deck and shared stories and drank his limitless Gatorade. They had lots of that sport drink because his son was a marathoner. Even though I had a nice swim and a nice break in the shade a Dave's I felt quite listless in the heat of the days after just being on the bike for another ½ hour.
I rode into Saratoga Springs for lunch and found out that the world-renowned horse race track was closed on Tuesdays. Bummer! I still went to the track just to have a look. The guard there was very, very excited about my trip. Boy, New York people have been so great!
I continued north to Glens Falls to meet Louise. On the way I went into a restaurant for some lemon aide and was given as much as I wanted free. I needed it. I needed anything to cool me down and to hydrate my body. I continued into Glens Falls then found Friendly's restaurant and was greeted by the big smile of Louise. It was very nice to see her. The heat made me quite exhausted so being Louise was just what I needed. We got a photograph taken of the two of us, loaded the bike onto the car and headed north and east into the very green and hilly Vermont. The rain started to fall heavily and the temperature as we pulled up to a Vermont motel for the night.
