"On the Trail"
Wednesday, August 15, 2001: A Sighting - Truro, NS to Pohenegamook, Quebec, Canada
Frank here…
We had one more partial kick at the tidal bore experience, but realized that we were too late to view it in the town of Maccan. But to make up for the lose of not seeing those "boring" bores, we took a spin to the Hopewell Rocks on the Bay of Fundy. At these rocks we would be able to view the rise and fall of the tides which are often 12 to 16 metres. We got there about 1 ½ hours after high tide. Already the water had dropped about 3 metres. In the short time of less than one hour that we visited the famous rocks, the tide had dropped another ½ metre. We will have to return when we have more time and view an entire cycle of the tide.
On our drive to Pohenegamook, I led Louise on what I thought was a shorter route. We ended up getting a bit lost - nothing that a few stops and asking questions would not fix. When we got into town, we were heartily greeted by two of Louise's aunts - Terese and Celine. A great meal and conversation filled the night. I find them so very welcoming, interesting, creative and friendly - just like Louise.
We heard that only a few days earlier there was a sighting of Pony - Pohenegamook Lake's monster. The legend continues.
