Visiting office of "number one honest guy" - Humnabad, Karnataka (Tad)Greetings,
Today
...feeling stronger and ready for another bus ride. Sultan (Ismail's younger brother) rode with me out to Humnabad and together we made our way to Ismail's Tasil office. This is a governmental services office which includes a small courtroom, and many office rooms.Ismail's job is a difficult one at times and requires a high level commitment to be done honestly and impartially. He determines and certifies the reported income and caste of a family. This information is then used to determine eligibility for many programs. Although I heard that many take bribes for favors as a matter of business policy, Ismail has a reputation for impartiality, honesty, and fairness. Even his friends in the office commented to me that he was "the number one honest guy".
After our visit to the office Ismail, Sultan and I joined Rukiah and Asmat for a meal at their Humnabad home. I greatly enjoyed the meal when I wasn't slapping at mamoth mosquitos attempting to carry off with my blood samples...they must have been doing volunteer duty for the Red Cross. Odomos (a local repellent) and fans to the rescue, and we all enjoyed watching a Hindi-dubbed Discovery Channel show. Headed back to Bagdal that night.
